2021 Grenache

DESCRIPTION

Usually lighter in color, tannins, and overall weight, Grenache is a very versatile and easy-drinking wine that is lively and loaded with bright cherry and other berry fruit characters. Aged for eighteen months in French oak, this Grenache has a wonderfully rich flavor and aroma, demonstrating the full range of what Grenache is capable of offering.

VINEYARD NOTES

This release heralds our fifteenth harvest of Grenache from our Carter Estate vineyard. Our Carter Estate Vineyards are planted with two different Grenache Noir clones (Entav 513 and 515) that are the epitome of Grenache. Large, full clusters, moderately dark fruit, vigorous canopy and generous yields. We worked very hard in the vineyard to manage the crop level to ensure great quality. Painstakingly trimming the individual clusters of their "wings" (small secondary clusters that form at the top of each main cluster) to intensify varietal characters and color rewarded us with a beautiful red wine that is loaded with beautiful flavors and aromas. This wine was aged for 15 months in French oak, and is brimming with berry character, delicate floral notes of violets and lavender, and warm spicy wood. This is a very smooth, sleek wine with a long velvety finish. The berry character is very rich and vibrant. It drinks almost like a Pinot Noir, but it isn't.
